Custom Masonry Sculpture Base for Highlands Ranch Golf Club: A Rotating Focal Point at the Clubhouse Entrance

In the heart of Highlands Ranch, Colorado, where natural beauty meets refined community planning, Architectural Signs was brought in to help a golf club client bring new life to an existing sculpture. The result is a striking installation: a custom-built cultured stone pedestal supporting a dynamic, rotating eagle sculpture—now a signature feature at the entrance roundabout to the Highlands Ranch Golf Club clubhouse.
This project required a thoughtful blend of structural integrity, aesthetic cohesion, and custom mounting solutions to fit both the landscape and the existing architectural language of the property.
A Statement Piece for an Upscale Golf Community
Highlands Ranch Golf Club is more than just a public course—it’s a centerpiece of community pride, connected to the University of Denver and nestled within one of Colorado’s most desirable residential areas. With scenic views of the Front Range, beautifully maintained fairways, and a well-appointed clubhouse, every detail of the property reinforces its reputation for quality and care.
When the club’s management decided to display an existing eagle sculpture at the main entrance island, they knew it had to match the level of craftsmanship that defines the entire property. That’s where our team came in.
Custom Fabrication to Match Existing Monument Elements
Our design team started by taking cues from the existing signage and masonry used throughout the site. The goal: to fabricate a pedestal that looked like it had always belonged there.
We constructed the base using cultured stone veneer, carefully selected to complement the texture and color palette of nearby monument signs and the clubhouse exterior. The form of the pedestal was designed for both aesthetics and function, providing a solid, grounded presence while elevating the sculpture for high visibility.
Engineering the Motion: A Rotating Sculpture Mount
The centerpiece of the display is the client’s existing eagle sculpture, set within a metal ring. To mount this securely while allowing rotational movement, we installed a steel pole in the center of the pedestal, over which a stainless steel sleeve was fitted. This sleeve was provided by the client and functions as a bearing, allowing the sculpture to spin freely by hand.
While the sculpture’s graceful motion adds visual interest, it also introduces engineering considerations. To ensure stability, the pedestal was built over a standard concrete footing engineered to support the load and resist shifting over time. Stainless steel materials were chosen for their strength and corrosion resistance, ensuring long-term durability even in Colorado’s variable climate.
An Inviting First Impression
Set in the middle of the drive that leads to the clubhouse, this installation serves both a functional and symbolic purpose. It acts as a visual guidepost for visitors, naturally drawing attention to the main entrance. More importantly, it adds a personal, artistic touch that reflects the character of the Highlands Ranch community—elegant, natural, and thoughtfully designed.
Unlike traditional static signs, the rotating sculpture introduces movement and interaction. Guests can engage with the sculpture as they walk past, while drivers enjoy a full 360-degree view from all approaches.
Designed to Integrate, Built to Last
This project is a great example of how architectural signage and sculpture mounting can go beyond utility and become part of the storytelling of a space. By working with the client’s existing artwork and incorporating it into a new, site-specific structure, we helped create a memorable landmark that adds lasting value to the property.
